Today, after Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports said Phoenix and Memphis were involved in trade talks with Rudy Gay, the Memphis Commercial-Appeal followed up with saying the Kings had inquired about Gay, too.
Why? Seriously. Gay is a volume shooter who is decent in some ways, and is what he is.
Why do the Kings need Gay? Because he fills the hole at SF?
Why? No, seriously, why?
Let that sink in for a moment.
Zach Lowe did a piece a few days ago at Grantland and basically concluded that Gay was A) at best a borderline All-Star and B) was not there at this point.
Sorry, but I have no faith in a franchise that has badly screwed up the last 2 drafts eschewing Kawhi Leonard and Andre Drummond but now has the answer in Rudy Gay. That isn't plum dumb stupid. It's like saying Corky from "Life Goes On" was a genius because his speech was different from others.
I'm not making fun of those with Downs Syndrome, but hopefully you get my point: Doing something different doesn't necessarily equate to actual improvement. Doing something different does, however, equate to doing something different.
Whether or not Geoff Petrie is behind this or not (I doubt it honestly), the Maloofs absolutely are. The Maloofs are idiots no doubt, but they love pizzazz and Rudy Gay has some of that with his high flying pyrotechnics that he does when he is going well and all that.
Plus, you have to factor in that Eric Gordon's turn in Free Agency has hurt the Maloofs confidence in resigning Tyreke Evans too. They aren't keen on paying Evans to stick around at a max salary when Evans hasn't produced "as much" as Gay has, in theory. Check Evans vs Gay though throughout their career. Is there a major league difference between the two other than Gay has played on bad teams and good teams in 3 more full seasons? I mean, gee, like no shit sherlock yeah?
So the Kings need to shell out their most talented player to get an overpaid borderline All-Star on his best days because he can jump AND dunk?
Yeah, that makes a ton of sense.
In other news, this team is still a clusterfuck until illustrated otherwise. Everything Maloof overshadows everything including the future (and that might be a problem because the Maloofs are jealous ninnies of the idea that the team could improve with the current group without them as owners) on the court just because that's how the Maloofs world works. (Yes, I know.)
But good news citizens; Virginia Beach has just flamed out which puts Seattle on the forefront, again, and this is good news. Yeah? Not really. Seattle just looms, and, yeah, nothing new there either.
Until next time then.
